Anne Duncan is a Classicist specializing in ancient performance history and culture. She is the author of Performance and Identity in the Classical World (Cambridge University Press, 2006) and numerous articles on Greek and Roman drama and performance issues. She is currently at work on two projects: a monograph about the intersections between theatricality and absolute rule in the ancient world called Command Performance: Tyranny and Theater in the Ancient World, and a textbook on Roman spectacle, under contract to Cambridge University Press.
Dr. Duncan teaches Greek and Latin language courses, as well as courses on Classical drama in translation, gladiators and other forms of Roman spectacle, gender and sexuality in the ancient world, and Classics in popular culture. She is an affiliate of the Women’s and Gender Studies Program and the LGBTQ/Sexuality Studies Program.
