Our department was renamed in 1998, but its roots date back to the university's chartering in 1869. Two of the original five founding faculty members were professors of Greek and Latin.
Our objective is to introduce students to the classical world and its role in the history of western civilization and the world's major religious traditions and their influence on human history.
