Yaroslav Komarovski’s new book Radiant Emptiness: Three Seminal Works by the Golden Pandita Shakya Chokden is an annotated translation of Chokden’s writings on the relationship between two Buddhist schools of thought: Yogacara and Madhyamaka. In his writing, Chokden strives to bring clear misconception about Yogacara and “proposes to accept Yogacara and Madhyamaka on their own terms as compatible systems.” The book focuses on this dynamic between the two schools of thought and on Chokden’s view of them. Komarovski also ties Chokden’s views to “such topics as epistemology, contemplative practice, the relationship between intellectual study and meditative experience, and other key questions that occupy contemporary scholarship on Buddhism and religion in general.”
