Students in two of Dr. Morgan Palmer's classes learned about Latin species names at Morrill Hall.
The students in CLAS 282, "The World of Classical Rome," also read excerpts from the ancient author Pliny the Elder's writings about animals in his Natural History, and Pliny the Younger's account of the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius. When visiting the museum, they saw exhibits of animals connected to the ones mentioned in Pliny the Elder's texts and also watched a video simulation of a volcanic eruption.
Students in LATN 302, "Latin Poetry," also participated in a scavenger hunt of Latin animal names, which was a fun and interactive way to practice Latin vocabulary.
