2010 graduate, CEO and founder of Archimedes Digital, a digital humanities software startup
Major(s): Classical Languages, English
What sparked your interest in your areas of study?
The professors in the Classics department who first taught me Latin and Greek and the narratives and histories from the ancient Mediterranean in those languages and Ken Price and Elizabeth Lorang at the Walt Whitman Archive who gave me the opportunity in a UCARE scholarship to learn programming in the digital humanities.
What is the value of studying in your areas?
A degree in Classics has been invaluable to founding a startup. It unlocks the potential of your life since poets like Homer teach you how to live.
How did you get to where you are now in your career and how did your education help?
I graduated from UNL and went to graduate school for translating Greek pastoral poetry. After grad school, I needed gainful employment and was passed over for teaching jobs, so I built on experience from the Walt Whitman Archive and worked as a software engineer for DC's NPR station for 3 years until moving to Boston and founding a digital humanities startup.
Were there any other experiences from your time at UNL that helped you get to where you are now?
UCARE! Working at the Walt Whitman Archive started me down the right track.
